Yin Yoga and Menopause
BarcelonaAbout the activity
Menopause—the pause in our menstruating years—is a natural and unique transition and transformation within our life cycles as women.
However, there is often a lack of clarity amid the abundance—or shortage—of information available to help us understand, navigate and support these changes and their implications for our physical, mental and psycho-emotional health.
Many women end up feeling frustrated, disoriented and/or overwhelmed. In addition, most begin navigating these new waters of life with a great deal of accumulated fatigue, multiple responsibilities and a feeling of being overstretched.
Yin Yoga offers an opportunity to pause and calm the nervous system, reducing the stress and anxiety that often intensify during this stage.
By working on the connective tissue and joints, it improves flexibility and helps relieve accumulated tension in the hips, back and pelvis. Conscious breathing and stillness promote better rest and may help combat insomnia.
This practice also invites us to connect with the body from a place of acceptance and calm, offering a space for introspection as we navigate the physical and emotional changes of menopause with greater balance and wellbeing.
In the face of the rejection and lack of respect that still exist in our society towards women’s ageing, it is up to us to rewrite the story of our cycles and listen to ourselves with greater compassion, kindness and patience.
Beyond being a series of symptoms to treat, this major life transition can be an opportunity to awaken. A moment to truly come closer to who we are, recognise our needs at this stage of life and ask ourselves what we want to be and do in this new chapter.
It is also a time to recognise what we need to say goodbye to, clear out and leave behind. It is a true rebirth in which a new version of ourselves may emerge.
